There are a variety of first basemen on the discard pile. For those who have been [Astros GM] Dana Brown, do you choose any of these suspects over Jon Singleton? J.D. Davis, Garrett Cooper, and so forth?
Singleton is a fairly outstanding comeback story, and for him to even make it to the majors in any respect after such a prolonged hiatus — not to mention discover himself in an everyday function — is commendable. Sentimentality would not win video games, nevertheless, and Singleton is a 32-year-old subpar defender whose .219/.319/.331 batting line is beneath common and nowhere close to robust sufficient to offset his lack of worth with the glove. I am as shocked as most Astros followers that the workforce remains to be trotting him on the market.
