Following up on his Canadian Derby (G3) win, August Rain scored his second graded victory in a row when touchdown the CA$125,000 British Columbia Derby (G3) Sept. 14 at Hastings Racecourse.
Bred in British Columbia by proprietor Peter Redekop, the 3-year-old Sungold gelding was despatched off because the $0.85-to-1 favourite. He and rider Amadeo Perez had been at all times in good place. They stalked the early tempo within the 1 1/8-mile grime race, then tipped four-wide turning for dwelling to produce the profitable run, prevailing by 1 1/4 lengths.
Moneyshot completed second, and it was one other 3 1/4 lengths again to J Dutton in third. Closing time over the sloppy monitor was 1:51.20.
