Unique Breeders’ Cup Board Member Philpott Dies


James A. Philpott Jr., a longtime advocate for the Thoroughbred business and an authentic member of the Breeders’ Cup board of administrators, died Sept. 2 on the age of 77. 

He was preceded in loss of life by his spouse, Judy Mauzé Philpott.

Philpott was the final surviving member of the preliminary Breeders’ Cup board of administrators and served as a member of the board till his loss of life. He volunteered his time for practically 30 years to maintain the minutes for practically each board assembly.

He graduated from Washington and Lee College and subsequently from the college’s regulation faculty. After training regulation in his native North Carolina, Philpott did the identical in New York Metropolis earlier than transferring to Lexington in 1980.
