After feeling a bit like he missed out throughout yearling season, Craig Bernick went to $900,000 to buy a weanling Into Mischief colt for his Glen Hill Farm at E book 1 of the Keeneland November Breeding Inventory Sale Nov. 5 in Lexington.
Foaled March 24 in Kentucky, the colt by the five-time reigning main sire was the highest-priced weanling via the primary 4 hours of Tuesday’s session. Bred by Edward and Beverly Seltzer, the colt was consigned by Taylor Made Gross sales Company, agent for the whole dispersal of Ed Seltzer’s Solera Farm.
Tuesday’s large splash adopted Glen Hill Farm buying three weanling colts for a complete of $850,000 Nov. 4 at Fasig-Tipton’s The November Sale. Bernick mentioned Glen Hill has been trying intently at weanlings in each gross sales as Tuesday’s buy of the Into Mischief colt adopted Monday’s haul of colts by Jackie’s Warrior , McKinzie , and Justify .
“We determined to try to purchase some colts in September and we could not get close to something. You must be so organized in September,” Bernick mentioned. “So, we thought we might attempt to purchase some foals. We purchased just a few (Monday) and this was type of our favourite one. We have seen all the pieces in E book 2, all the pieces immediately, all the pieces final evening, and he was the most effective one right here.”
The colt, supplied as Hip 173, is the second foal out of the grade 3-winning Malibu Moon mare Eres Tu , a half sister to stakes winners Pangburn (dam of grade 1-placed Caddo River ) and Ain’t Acquired Time . The second dam of the colt is the stakes-winning Sure It is True mare It is True Love.
Bernick already was conversant in the Into Mischief weanling colt as he was raised at Amaroo Farm, close to Lexington, the place Glen Hill retains its mares.
“I’ve type of identified the horse all his life. He was a dispersal so he usually would not come on the market as a foal; he usually could be (supplied as) a yearling,” Bernick mentioned. “He is out of a Malibu Moon mare, actually good household, good race mare. Clearly Into Mischief. I am not going to say he ticked all of the containers as a result of that is very apparent. He was some huge cash, however we figured he could be.”
These early impressions lasted.
“I bear in mind once I got here again right here and was seeing a few of our foals, Jamie Frost, who has Amaroo, mentioned this Into Mischief is a very good colt,” Bernick mentioned. “Jamie’s at all times had a excessive opinion of the horse. After we got here right here, he was a really apparent horse. A extremely stylish mover, fairly head. It seems like he’ll hopefully run round two turns. I actually just like the horse.”
The weanling will return to Glen Hill Farm close to Ocala, Fla. He’ll be raised there after which put into coaching.
